The Thames Art Gallery and Arts Centre is located just north of Thames, beside the sea, on the Thames coast at Tararu.
This seaside art gallery is housed in what was once originally a school house built in 1878 known as Tararu School, then later as North School. The historic building is a registered Heritage New Zealand Category 2 place.
Previously known as the Thames Society of Arts, the gallery was founded in 1974 with the aim of providing an arts centre for the wider community of Thames.
